Solutions: Leadership, achievement through sports, values, leadership development, consultancy

Derek Peaple has twenty years’ experience as a secondary headteacher.  Under his leadership, Park House School in Newbury developed as one of the country’s most successful Specialist Sports Colleges, subsequently being identified in the top 100 state schools in the country for continuous improvement.

Derek’s championing of the values of sports to build confidence in learning across the curriculum resulted in his shortlisting for Times Education Supplement National Headteacher of the Year Award.  In this context, his ‘values-driven ambition for students’ has been praised by Ofsted as a distinctive feature of his leadership.

In 2020 he set up The Leading Peaple Company Limited, offering innovative consultancy services in relation to school and leadership development to a wide range of national and international partners.

Solutions: Helping students apply to universities around the world; Finding scholarships for students to go to college; Mentoring college counselors and university advisors; helping families find more affordable university options

Joan Liu has been a college counselor for the past 22 years, across six schools in the US, UK, Turkey, and Singapore.  In the admissions industry, Joan is the best known for her work in 2018, when she mobilized a pro-bono team of counselors to support the 60 Nepali students who had lost their scholarships from University of Texas at Tyler (due to a budget error on UT Tyler’s part). She and her team re-seated 56 students at new universities in the US, Canada, Middle East, and East Asia, with 10+ million in financial aid and scholarships, and raised 180K in gap funding – after the US cycle had finished that year.  This year, Joan is turning that work into a non-profit called Second Chance.
